NEW VIDEO: Princess Nyah - Do What I Want

For you ravers out there UK Funky's royalty, Princess Nyah, is back with a new single release.  Do What I Want is the new track and video out by the Frontline singer.  One of the UK's brightest underground female vocalists Princess Nyah has returned with an upbeat and confident sounding club track.  This songstress is determined to succeed in the UK music industry and this song highlights her passion stating that 'she'll do exactly what she wants'.

UrbanVoice UK's opinion:  A definite club track that will no doubt be played throughout the clubs in Malia, Ayia Napa and Falaraki this summer.  Princess Nyah has produced another decent club banger geared to get ravers skanking!!

Overall score: 4/5

Memory Lane: Devlin One Year On

Every now and again I like to go back a year or two to see how far certain UK artists have progressed.  The last year for this artist in particular has been a phenomonal success.  Even my female magazine tipped this artist off as the big artist to blow for 2011 at the beginning of the year - so that is saying something.  Devlin, a grime lyricist hailing from Dagenham, Essex has continued to impress.  So, let me take you back down memory lane to last year when Devlin featured on S.B.T.V spitting live.  This clip reminds you of what continuous hard work and talent can do for you.  Devlin goes in hard and you can rate Devlin's performance via the like and dislike buttons.

NEW VIDEO: D Double E - Bluku! Bluku! ft Dizzee Rascal (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

Finally here it is, the official video for the track entitled - Bluku! Bluku! by D Double E featuring Dizzee Rascal.

UrbanVoice UK is loving this video and I have been waiting for its release. With a video that is a little bit more creative than your usual club setting with scantily clad ladies and VIP table's filled with alcohol.  It is also good to see Dizzee Rascal back on the grime collaborations - it's good too have you back Dizzee.

Are you feeling Bluku! Bluku!?

BREAKING NEWS: Amy Winehouse is Found Dead in Her London Flat

Amy Winehouse, aged 27, has been found dead at her home in London, it has been reported.  The Back To Black singer was apparently found at 4pm and her death is believed to be unexplained.

This is a great shame to hear, Amy Winehouse was a talented and great artist.  Her ongoing battle with drugs has been painful to watch and I wish that she is now happy and will rest in peace.

My thoughts go out to her family and friends.
RIP Amy Winehouse.

Book Review: FAM (Rolling in a London Girl Gang) by Chyna

As I was on holiday recently I thought I should bring a book with me to pass the time.  I don't know about you but I am definitely into my True Crime stories and love watching TV programmes such as Prison Break, Banged up Abroad and Ross Kemp on Gangs.

As I was browsing through the True Crime section in Waterstones, Piccadilly Circus, London, I came across a book called FAM (Rolling in a London Girl Gang) by Chyna.  I thought 'why not?!...I need an easy read for the my holiday'.  So, here is the synopsis for the book.

Synopsis:  Chyna was born in the middle of gangland UK.  From a young age she saw people all around her in gangs.  They had the status, the ghetto-fabulous look and the money.  So when girls from a rival school started picking on Chyna and her friends, they decided to take control of their lives and form their own gang.

They called it Nothing to Lose.

Soon Chyna was caught up in a world of tiefing phones, shoplifting and shanks.  she rolled tight with her fam.  They checked for each other and felt unstoppable.  The risk of arrest and beatings was always present, but so were the rewards: fast p's, bare liquor and draw, and the thril of being above the law.

Then boys came into their lives, and Chyna and her friends were attracted to some of gangland's most notorious - and quickly linked with them.  Now Chyna found herself in a very glamorous world with VIP tables at the most exclusive clubs, big p's lavished on bling and champagne.  She was living the highlife as the girlfriend of one of London's most feared gangstas.

The deeper she got into the world, the more she discovered the dark side.  The guns, the vicious drug dealers, the constant threat of prison: Chyna knew she had to find a way out.  But it would be a devastating tragedy - one that ripped apart her world - before Chyna found the courage to leave gangland behind once and for all.

Urban Voice UK Review:  This book has been criticised for glamourising gangland.  I disagree, Chyna manages to portray the flip side to big p's, and designer clothes, with the way you're always looking over your shoulder, you can't trust people, can't sleep at night, not knowing when the boydem (police) are going to get to you next.  It is interesting to get a female perspective on gangs and what exactly drives a female to be a associated with gang culture as females are often referred to as the maternal sex. Overall FAM is an interesting read highlighting certain realities that exist within the UK which at points you don't want to put the book down.
Overall score:  4/5
FAM (Rolling in a London Girl Gang) by Chyna is available to buy from all good bookstores and Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fam-Rolling-London-Girl-Gang/dp/1444714309

Ms Dynamite - Never Soft

It looks like the very conscious Ms Dynamite is back and ready to shake up the UK Music scene.  This time the It Takes More and Boo singer has teamed up with the hot producer Labrinth, and what a great combo it is.  Rumour has it that a video will be coming out soon, so watch this space.

I use to look up to this female MC when I was younger as I felt that she is a positive role model to woman showing that you don't have to take off your clothes and dance around in a bikini to be successful.

In the meantime here is a taster of the song - Enjoy!

Wretch 32 - Don't Go

It seems that Wretch 32 is not going anywhere anytime soon and the boy from Tottenham seems to be placing a firm foot within the UK Music scene.  Out on 14th August Wretch 32 has come with another big track, Don't Go.  This time Wretch 32 has slowed the pace and shown us his softer side with a street style love tale fearturing Josh Kumra.

Urban Voice UK presents to you Wretch 32 featuring Josh Kumra with Don't Go - I smell a number 1 in the air with this one...

Urban Voice UK Presents New and Underground Talent

I've brought four underground artists to you this week for you to decide whether or not you are feeling them.

First up, we have Nyja & Tzer with their song Rated.  The beat is definitely a fusion clash with old skool hip-hop and dance music snippets in the mix.  I get what these two are trying to do and instead of trying to follow the crowd Nyja and Tzer have tried to bring something fresh to scene.  What you do think?  Check out their video Rated here and hit that like or dislike button.

Second up, we have Deebz a 'Realist Rapper' from Hackney, London.  Deebz is holding it down for the UK Rap scene.  You have to admire him for trying to break into a very difficult market.  We have a freestyle video snapshot for you featuring Deebz freestyling over the US Rap classic Nas featuring Lauren Hill's Rule the World beat.  What do you think? Has Deebz got what it takes to represent UK Rap?

Third up, we have Makeida, a female artist with her new track entitled Sugar Love, coming with soft female vocals over a laid back R&B beat.  Makeida is an R&B singer from London.  Check out her brand new video and song Sugar Love here on Urban Voice UK.  This video will make you want to book a holiday, that's for sure but I think that there is something reminiscent of early 90's R&B here.  Let us know what you think.

Last but not least, I present to you the official video for Smartz featuring Gappy Ranks for their track enttiled The Whole World.  I have posted about Smartz before and here he is again proving that hard work can definitely pay off.  Smartz has come back stronger and is making a name for himself within the UK underground music scene.  Check out the new official video below and let us know what you think.  Hit that like or dislike button and feel free to comment.
